Lucas Browne (* 14. April 1979 in Auburn , Sydney , New South Wales , Australia ) is an Australian boxer in the heavyweight division .

Professional career

In March 2009, the very powerful left wingman made his successful debut with a classic knockout win in Round 4 in Brookvale , New South Wales , against his compatriot Jason Keir.

At the end of April 2013, he met the 44-year-old American James Toney (74-7-3). This fight was for the vacant World Boxing Foundation title . Browne won this fight clearly and unanimously on points.

On November 2 of the same year, he defeated the previously unbeaten British Richard Torwers (14-0-0) in a 12-round fight in the 5th round by TKo. On November 12, 2014, Browne also faced him the still unbeaten Ukrainian Andriy Rudenko (24-0-0) in a fight also scheduled for 12 rounds and won by unanimous decision.

In 2016, Browne boxed against the Uzbek Ruslan Chagayev at the Colosseum Sport Hall in the Chechen capital of Grozny . Browne won by technical knockout in round 10 and became Australia's first heavyweight world champion ( WBA ). However, he tested positive for Clenbuterol during the subsequent doping control . He was banned for six months and the world title was revoked.
