Lucas van Uden (born October 18, 1595 in Antwerp , † November 4, 1672 there ) was a Flemish painter and etcher .

Life

Lucas van Uden was the son of Artus van Uden, city painter of Antwerp, and grandson of Pieter van Uden, founder of a manufactory of tapestries and silk in the city. Lucas was probably trained by his father. He was enrolled in the Antwerp Guild of St. Luke in 1626-27 as a “master son”. On February 14, 1627 he married Anna van Woelput (died 1667). On December 31, 1649, he was registered as no longer living in the city. He probably lived elsewhere for a period in 1650.

Works

He is best known for painting landscapes for Rubens and David Teniers the Younger , which they provided with figures.

But he also painted numerous independent landscapes based on motifs from Brabant and Flanders, whose peculiarity is based on a simple and faithful conception. Under Rubens' influence, its color became warmer and richer. The galleries in Dresden, Petersburg, Brussels, Frankfurt a. M., Munich, Antwerp, Berlin, Vienna and others. His landscape etchings (about 30) are executed with an extremely fine observation of nature and a delicate needle.
