Luciano Héctor Becchio (born December 28, 1983 in Córdoba ) is an Argentine football player who has been on loan with the English second division Rotherham United since 2014 .
Player career
The first career stages
After Becchio failed to get a place in the first team of the Boca Juniors , he left Argentina and moved to Spain. His first club was the RCD Mallorca , where he was only used in the second team in the third Spanish division in the 2003/04 season . In 2004/05 he was loaned to the second division club Ciudad de Murcia and just managed to stay in the league when he was eighteenth. In 2005 he switched to FC Terrassa , who had been relegated from the second division the previous year and were now in the third division. At the beginning of the 2006/07 season he signed with the second team of FC Barcelona , but moved to UD Mérida in early January 2006 .
UD Mérida
After five goals in twelve games during the second half of the 2006/07 season, Becchio scored twenty-two league goals in 2007/08 and thus achieved the ultimate breakthrough in professional football. UD Mérida also reached fourth place in his season thanks to his goals, but missed promotion to the second division due to the early exit in the play-offs.
Leeds United
On August 1, 2008, the 24-year-old Becchio moved to the English third division Leeds United and signed a three-year contract. After the sacking of coach Gary McAllister in December 2008, Simon Grayson took over the club and led Leeds to fourth in the play-offs. There the team around Luciano Becchio (45 games / 15 goals) failed in the first round at Millwall FC . The 2009/10 season was more successful for the club with the runner-up behind Norwich City , which led to direct promotion to the second-rate Football League Championship . Becchio (37 games / 15 goals) was able to prove his accuracy again. Thanks to its Argentinian striker (41 games / 19 goals), Leeds was successful in the 2010/11 championship as a newcomer and, in seventh place, missed the play-offs by just one place.
Norwich City
On January 31, 2013 Becchio moved to the English first division club Norwich City .
