Lucien Chevallaz

Lucien Chevallaz ( Bulgarian Люсиен Шевалас ; born August 26, 1840 in Aubonne , Waad , † October 22, 1921 in Plovdiv ) was a Swiss gardener who worked in Bulgaria . Because of his work in Bulgaria he was called "Minister of Flowers" (Bulgar. Министърът на цветята).

He came to Plovdiv in 1879 at the invitation of Prince Aleksandar Bogoridi , Governor General of Eastern Rumelia . Here Chevallaz laid out numerous parks, designed the city hills Bunardschik and Sachat-tepe and became head of the public parks and the tree nursery ("Pépinière Chevallaz"). He created the parks for the First Bulgarian Agricultural and Industrial Exhibition in 1892, the Central Garden (later Tsar Simeon's Garden) and the City Garden (Dondukow Garden) .

In 1901 he became an honorary citizen of Plovdiv.
