Lucien Frank
Lucien Frank (* 10. November 1857 in Brussels ; † 20th January 1920 in Ohain in the municipality Lasne ) was a Belgian landscape painter of Impressionism .
He was born as the third child of Joseph Frank from the Netherlands and Serette Levy from France.
Lucien Frank was a student of Charles-François Daubigny in Paris . He also met Edouard Manet .
Frank exhibited his impressionist works, mostly landscapes, from 1886. He settled in Ohain in the province of Walloon Brabant in 1887 . He married the painter Sylvia Marie Vloeberghen. From 1890 he worked in the Tervuren area , where he settled for a short time.
Over time, his interest shifted to the busy streets and markets in the larger cities, which he portrayed in a very personal style. He traveled abroad at short intervals.
He left Belgium when the First World War broke out. His wife died during this exile that brought him to France and Spain. Back in Belgium, he and his son Paul found a new home in Ohain in 1919. He died of a sudden stroke just a few months after settling in his home.
