Hans Ulrich Gschwend

Hans Ulrich Gschwend (* 25. October 1776 in depths ; † 16th June 1849 ibid ; heimatberechtigt in Teufen) was a Swiss businessman and founder of a labor and orphans school in depths from the canton of Appenzell Outer Rhodes .

Life

Hans Ulrich Gschwend was a son of Johannes Gschwend. He married Anna Katharina Walser, daughter of Johannes Walser, Rittmeister . From 1828 the merchant Hans Ulrich Gschwend was the owner of Alp Santmaregg in Appenzell Innerrhoden . He and his wife earned lasting merit through their charitable gifts. From 1832 to 1833 he founded a work and orphan school in his home town. He remained their cashier and patron throughout his life . He also made large contributions to other school and social institutions as well as road construction.
