Lucio Franco Amanti (born November 14, 1977 in Montreal ) is an Italian cellist and composer . Amanti's music is characterized by the fact that it integrates jazz and pop elements into classical forms of music.

life and work

Amanti was born in Montreal, Canada. His Italian parents decided to return to Italy shortly after he was born . There Amanti received his first piano lessons at the age of 4, cello lessons at the age of 8, and from the age of nine he began his studies at the “San Pietro a Majella” Conservatory in Naples, first in cello, then in composition. During his ten-year studies he performed as a soloist and with orchestra on the Italian radio ( RAI ) and also at venues such as the Teatro San Carlo , the William Walton Foundation La Mortella (Ischia) and the Festival of Ravello.

As an active composer, Amanti had his first experience at the age of 19 when he participated in the "composers workshop" (in Italian <Bottega di Composizione>): a group of composition students founded by the celebrated Italian composer Roberto De Simone, whose work is often performed in the largest concert halls in Italy. In 2002 the legendary cellist János Starker invited Amanti to study with him at Indiana University Bloomington Jacobs School of Music in the USA. After studying for two years, Amanti decided, due to his newly discovered passion for improvisation, to deepen his knowledge and began to study composition, jazz and improvisation with the composer and jazz teacher David Baker . During this time Amanti wrote many compositions and arrangements for various ensembles, always careful to create the basis for a dialogue between jazz and classical tradition.

After graduating from university in 2006 with both a diploma in classical cello and a master's degree in jazz, Amanti moved to Berlin, Germany. There he appeared in jazz clubs as a soloist and with his trio. For a short time he was forced to abandon his cellist career due to a more serious arm injury. That is why he began to work for a large designer company and its sound branding team in various functions: as a creative producer, musical consultant and composer for companies such as Audi, Siemens, Deutsche Post and Commerzbank, to name just a few. A few years later, Amanti began performing again as a soloist on projects that gave him the chance to enter the stages of the Edinburgh Jazz Festival, the Leverkusen Jazz Days of the Salle Cortot and UNESCO in Paris. Since 2010, most of his music has been published by “Schott Music” and premiered by musicians such as Eckart Runge Artemis Quartet , Arnau Thomas (Casals Quartet) and the Armida Quartet. As a teacher, Amanti has given classes in composition and improvisation. This includes at the “ Jazz Institute Berlin ” and at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington (Indiana) in the USA.
