Lucius D. Battle

Lucius Durham Battle (born June 1, 1918 in Dawson , Georgia , † May 13, 2008 ) was an American diplomat .

Career

Battle officiated from 1962 to 1964 as secretary of state for educational and cultural affairs ( Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs ) in the United States Department of State and was from 1964 to 1967 the United States ambassador in Egypt . He then returned to Washington, DC and returned to work in the State Department. This time he was Secretary of State for the Middle East and South Asia ( Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern and South Asian Affairs ) until 1968 .
