Ludolf of Trier
Ludolf , often also Liudolf von Trier (* in Erpostede near Stecklenberg , † April 7, 1008 in Erpostede) was Archbishop of Trier from 994 to 1008 .
Life
Ludolf comes from the Erpostede near Stecklenburg in the Harz, which no longer exists today . He was the imperial court chaplain , canon in Hildesheim and probably also provost in Goslar . In 994 he was ordained Archbishop of Trier by Bishop Adalbero II of Metz . Shortly after taking office, he came into conflict with the citizens of Trier and imposed an interdict on the city. After the death of Emperor Otto III. he stood up for the election of Heinrich II . He had the cathedral district in Trier separated from the city by building a wall. Ludolf died in his birthplace in 1008. He was buried in Halberstadt Cathedral.
