Ludovico Héctor Avio (born May 15, 1932 in Pigüé , Argentina , † June 23, 1996 in Mar del Plata , Argentina) was an Argentine football player. He took part in the 1958 World Cup with the national team of his home country .

Career

Club career

Ludovico Avio began his football career in 1952 with Argentino de Quilmes in the city of the same name in the province of Buenos Aires . After three years with the club, he moved to Quilmes AC in 1954 , the larger club from Quilmes , which is commonly considered to be one of the oldest football clubs in Argentina. Avio stayed at Quilmes AC for another year before moving to CA Vélez Sársfield in Buenos Aires . With the club he played until 1961, but could not win a national title. After 74 games and 22 goals for Vélez Sársfield, Ludovico Avio went to the All Boys in 1961 , also from Buenos Aires. Since Avio, like all his previous posts, played for smaller clubs, he did not win any national championship or any other title in the All Boys jersey. After his time with the All Boys, where he only played a year, he worked for a short time at the lower class club CA San Lorenzo Mar del Plata before ending his active career in 1967 at the age of 36. In 1970 he returned to the football field for a short time and played three games for the Kimberley club , also from Mar del Plata .

National team

Ludovico Avio was used a total of six times in the Argentine national soccer team . From Argentina coach Guillermo Stábile he was appointed to the South American squad for the 1958 World Cup in Sweden . At the tournament, Avio was used in two of the three Argentine games. In the 3-1 win in the second round match against Northern Ireland , he scored a goal, he scored the 3-1 in the 59th minute, which also meant the final score, after Argentina had previously given the Northern Irish through Peter Omar Corbatta and Norberto Menéndez McParland had equalized. In his second tournament game, the embarrassing 1: 6 against Czechoslovakia , Avio failed to score. For Argentina, the 1958 World Cup ended with the disappointing elimination after the preliminary round.
