Ludovico Roncalli

Ludovico Antonio Roncalli , also Ludovico Conte del Roncalli (born March 6, 1654 in Bergamo , † August 25, 1713 ) was an Italian nobleman and composer .

Live and act

Ludovico Roncalli came from a noble family based in Bergamo. Certainly he came into contact with the guitarist Giovanni Battista Granata (around 1620–1687) who worked there in his hometown . Roncalli published in Bergamo in 1692 a collection of suites for 5-course baroque guitar, Capricci Armonici per la Chitarra spagnuola ("Harmonious Caprices for Spanish Guitar"). Numerous pieces are close to the French style, as can be found, for example, with Robert de Visée .

The works were transcribed in 1881 by Oscar Chilesotti (1848–1916) for modern 6-string guitar. The work consists of nine complete suites. It is often found in guitar schools. Bruno Henze transcribed the work in 1955 at VEB Friedrich Hofmeister Leipzig. The original was published as a facsimile by Paolo Paolini in Florence in 1982 .

A Passacaglia in G minor was borrowed from Ottorino Respighi for his Antiche danze ed arie .
