Ludwig Bendix (born June 28, 1877 in Dorstfeld , now Dortmund ; died January 3, 1954 in Oakland ) was a German lawyer , financial advisor and economist.

Life

Bendix was born in Dorstfeld near Dortmund. He completed a law degree and practiced as a lawyer from 1907 , and from 1923 as a notary in Berlin . Bendix was a co-founder of the magazine Die Justiz . As early as 1933, at the beginning of the National Socialist era , he was struck off the list of attorneys as a Jew and thus also lost his office as a notary. A “ protective custody ” lasting from 1935 to 1937 took him via the Lichtenburg concentration camp to the Dachau concentration camp . He described life in the camp in previously unpublished memoirs . On the condition that he had to leave Germany, Bendix was released from the Dachau concentration camp in 1937 and moved to Palestine . After ten years there, he emigrated to the USA in 1947 , where he died in 1954.

His son Reinhard Bendix made a name for himself as a sociologist in the USA .
