Ludwig Buisson

Ludwig Buisson (born June 12, 1918 in Karlsruhe ; † July 17, 1992 ) was a German historian .

Life

Ludwig Buisson received his doctorate in 1951 under Gerd Tellenbach at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau . In 1957 he received his habilitation there and was appointed private lecturer at the universities of Freiburg im Breisgau and Marburg . In 1961 he became a full professor for the history of the Middle Ages at Saarbrücken University . From 1967 to 1985 he was a full professor for Medieval and Modern History at the University of Hamburg . In Hamburg he was the successor of Otto Brunner , who retired in 1966 but taught for another year. After the death of Paul Johansenthere was another parallel professorship for medieval history held by Rolf Sprandel and then Gerhard Theuerkauf . Buisson was succeeded in 1993 by Hans-Werner Goetz .

According to Gerhard Theuerkauf , he represented the history of the Middle Ages in a large temporal and spatial expanse (from late antiquity to the 16th century), he investigated ideas, law and constitution of the Middle Ages ... knowledgeable and close to sources, haunting and subtle and presented important connections between the European History of the Middle Ages . According to Eckart Krause, he was still a representative of the old full-time university in many ways, but advocated the reform university in Hamburg in many areas and was particularly committed to the university's partnership with Bordeaux.

Ludwig Buisson was married to the historian Inge Buisson geb. Wolff.
