Ludwig Dahn

Ludwig Dahn (born March 12, 1843 in Munich ; † October 20, 1898 there ) was a German actor.

Dahn was the son of the actor Friedrich Dahn and his first wife Constance Le Gaye ; his older brother was the writer Felix Dahn . Dahn received his first artistic lessons from his mother; later he became a student of the actress Sophie Schröder .

Through their mediation, he came to the Weimar Court Theater at the age of 17 . There he was able to successfully debut in the role of "Leopold" in September of the same year. There he remained a member of the ensemble until 1864 and took part in almost all of Shapesspeare's royal dramas .

In 1865 Dahn moved to the Prussian court theater in Berlin as the “first adolescent lover” and stayed there until the war in 1870/71 and then returned to Berlin. There he married and had a son, Felix (* 1874). In September 1873 he accepted an engagement at the German Theater in St. Petersburg . He worked there from spring 1874 to summer 1877 and then returned to Germany.

In 1878 he was brought to the royal court theater in Munich , where he played until the end of his life. He made his debut in Munich in the role of "Kosinsky". In his last years Dahn was plagued by illnesses and could not repeat his earlier successes on stage. Dahn died on October 20, 1898 in Munich at the age of 55.
