Ludwig Fick

Franz Ludwig Fick (born May 18, 1813 in Erlangen , † December 31, 1858 in Marburg ) was a German anatomist .

Life

Fick received his doctorate in 1835 at the Philipps University of Marburg and habilitated there in 1837 in anatomy. From 1837 to 1843 he was the first prosector to work. During this time he was appointed associate professor of pathological anatomy in 1839 and, after the death of Christian Heinrich Bünger , in 1842, provisional director of the anatomical institute. In 1843 he took over the chair for anatomy and the management of the anatomical institute. In 1848 he was dean of the medical faculty.

He specialized in bone growth. Fick developed the brain phantom, a hinged model of the brain made of paper. He completed the Museum anatomicum set up by his predecessor with additional specimens.

Fick was a member of the Society of German Natural Scientists and Doctors .
