Carl Friedrich Ludwig Hellwig (born July 23, 1773 in Kunersdorf bei Wriezen , † November 24, 1838 in Berlin ) was a German composer and musician.

The son of the Kunersdorf preacher Jeremias Christoph Ludwig Hellwig (1735–1788) and brother of the actor Friedrich Hellwig initially devoted himself to a factory business from 1789, but at the same time received musical training from Joseph Augustin Gürrlich , Georg Abraham Schneider and Carl Friedrich Zelter in Berlin. In 1812 he gave up his other professional businesses to devote himself exclusively to music.

In addition to his position as court and cathedral organist in Berlin since 1813 and royal music director (1815), he joined the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin as early as 1793 , with which he was closely associated throughout his life. During an illness of the director Carl Friedrich Zelter, he even temporarily took over its management and was later deputy director under Carl Friedrich Rungenhagen . Hellwig also belonged to the "original line" of the Zelterschen Liedertafel founded on January 24, 1809 (as Hellwig I), as did his brother, the Secret Judiciary Carl Hellwig (as Hellwig II).

Among other things, he composed numerous songs, an opera and worked as a piano reduction maker , for example Christoph Willibald Gluck'sIphigenie auf Tauris ” or Georg Friedrich Handel's oratorio “ Judas Maccabäus ” (based on Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's arrangement in the keyboard excerpt ).
