Ludwig Hermann (painter)

Elias Ludwig Hermann (born April 6, 1812 in Greifswald , † December 29, 1881 in Berlin ) was a German landscape and marine painter.

Life

Ludwig Hermann was born as the son of the gardener Wilhelm Hermann and his wife Sophie, b. Weber was born in Greifswald and grew up in Anklam , where his parents also died. At the age of 19, he was admitted to the Prussian Academy of Arts in Berlin in 1831 , where he was a student of Johann Gottfried Schadow . From 1836 he took part in the Berlin Academy exhibitions. Around 1837/38 he stayed in Paris , where he was a student of Eugène Isabey and Eugène Lepoittevin . He then returned to Berlin and traveled to Italy in 1842/43 . Between 1862 and 1873 Hermann stayed in London several times and participated in exhibitions there. He was married to Auguste, geb. Dupont who survived him.
