Ludwig Lindgens

Johann Ludwig Lindgens (born March 30, 1824 in Neumühl ; † March 21, 1910 in Mülheim an der Ruhr ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur in the leather industry .

Ludwig Lindgens was a son of Friedrich Lindgens and Anna Lindgens geb. Läppchen, he took over the Temminghoven estate from his father in 1848, which the family had owned for a long time . He exchanged this property for the Neumühler mill on the Emscher in Hamborn . The mill he sold in 1854 and bought with the money in the grocery action Joh. Wilh. Meininghaus son in Mülheim an der Ruhr. In 1857 he took over together with Wilhelm Schmitz , the management of the now under Wilh. Schmitz & Lindgens operating company, a nucleus of today's Tengelmann Warenhandelsgesellschaft .

In 1861 Ludwig Lindgens married Gertrud Rühl (1837–1897) in Mülheim an der Ruhr, one of twelve daughters of Wilhelm Rühl and Gertraud Rühl, née Rühl. Tan. Her father was a master tanner and came from a well-known, traditional Mülheim tanner family. In the same year Ludwig Lindgens founded the Ludw leather factory together with his wife Gertrud . Since Ludwig Lindgens is actually only a silent partner at Wilh. Schmitz & Lindgens , he retired from this business at the end of 1866.

In 1892 he appointed his only 18-year-old son Ludwig Lindgens junior (1874–1928) to the management, in 1895 his brother-in-law Ludolf Schmitz (1866–1947) was added. Ludwig Lindgens senior converted the company into a GmbH in 1902 , in which he included his son Ludwig and his four daughters. He slowly retired from the management and died in 1910.
