Ludwig Philipp Hahn (born March 22, 1746 in Trippstadt ; † 1814 ) was a German civil servant as well as a poet and author of plays. It can be classified in the time of Sturm und Drang (also: genius time ).

Life

From 1777 the son of a pastor was a civil servant (last auditor) in Zweibrücken , Lützelstein and again Zweibrücken. As a partner in the "Hahn'schen privileged book printing and bookshop" in Zweibrücken, Hahn was also active as a bookseller and journalist from 1785. As a writer, he was active in his spare time. He was married from 1777.

Hahn met Christian Schubart during a long stay in Ulm . He was inspired by Hahn's literary skills and supported Hahn with the first publication of “Der Aufruhr zu Pisa” (tragedy, modeled on Gerstenberg's Ugolino ). This was followed by Karl von Adelsberg (1776, marriage tragedy), Zill and Margreth (1781, murder story, dedicated to citizens ), Robert von Hohenecken (1778, based on the model of Johann Wolfgang Goethe's Götz von Berlichingen and Otto von Klinger ) and Wallrad and Evchen (Singspiel , 1782).

A century later (1879), critics found his drama and lyric poetry to be “disgusting” and “dirty”, the popular characters were exposed as “raw”, and in particular “Robert von Hohenecken” was “flatly” imitated from the models. Erich Schmidt, the reviewer, describes Hahn's manner as "Bright colors, a lot of noise, rabble naturalism , nonsensical hyperbolas , [...] inability [...], in the lyric without success", since he is free, "French" and "Lessingisch" composed.
