Ludwig Rohbock
Ludwig Rohbock (born March 30, 1824 in Sulzbach near Nuremberg ; † January 12, 1893 in Munich ) was a German landscape and architectural draftsman and steel engraver .
Life
Rohbock was baptized with the name Balthasar Josef Ludwig , he remained unmarried throughout his life. He first worked as a steel engraver, painter and landscape draftsman in Nuremberg before moving to Munich in 1888 as a freelance painter and due to illness.
Rohbock also traveled through Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary and Transylvania and made numerous drawings, of which he later made steel engravings. Drawings, especially of German and Swiss cities and landscapes, served as templates for widespread steel engravings and were partially engraved by Johann Poppel .
Rohbock also drew a series of steel engravings with views of the Harz (1853), the Rhine (1855) and Hungary and Transylvania (1857). Chromolithographs with views of the Bernese Oberland were published around 1875 based on his drawings . Around 1855 he drew a series of Danube vedute , which he himself engraved in steel.
