Ludwig Schwab (photographer)

Ludwig Schwab (* 1899 or 1900 ; † September 4, 1939 in Vienna ) was an Austrian portrait photographer.

Life

Ludwig Schwab worked as an amateur photographer from the late 1920s and was able to win prizes for his work, for example at the international competition of Gevaert -Werke in 1931.

In the school year 1935/36 he attended the graphic teaching and research institute in Vienna and shortly before his death opened his own studio in Vienna at Castellezgasse 29 (business registration 1938).

He died unexpectedly of a heart condition at the age of 40.

His portraits appeared - even before his professional occupation with photography - a. a. in the monthly for culture and politics or on Radio Wien. Illustrated weekly of the Austrian Radio Verkehrs-AG .

In 1937/38 the solo exhibition “Face and Expression - Photographic Portrait Studies by Ludwig Schwab” was dedicated to him at the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry , for which he was awarded the Bronze Medal by the Photographic Society in 1937 .

“Schwab went to the public with some very noteworthy exhibitions of photographic portraits, which showed his strong talent for naturalistic portraits. The press and several art experts praised the peculiar work of this young photographer. "
