Ludwig Waldschmidt

Ludwig Waldschmidt (born December 6, 1886 in Kaiserslautern ; † January 1, 1957 there ) was a German painter and graphic artist.

Life

Ludwig Waldschmidt was born in Kaiserslautern in 1886. He completed an apprenticeship as a decorative painter in his father's painting business and studied at the master school for craftsmen in Kaiserslautern before attending Gustav Schmidt's anatomy and nude school in Munich . From 1919 to 1920 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1924 he moved to Berlin . In 1948 he returned to Kaiserslautern, where he died in 1957.

Ludwig Waldschmidt is one of the most important expressionists in the Palatinate . In haunting portraits he showed people in the world of work. The main subjects of his paintings are farmers and industrial workers. He also painted landscapes in which he depicted the forests of his homeland, the vineyards on the Haardt, but also industrial landscapes. In 1922 he was a founding member of the Palatinate Artists Working Group (apk) .
