Ludwig Franz Edmund Freiherr von Preuschen von und zu Liebenstein (born June 19, 1875 in Langenschwalbach (Hessen-Nassau); † December 13, 1964 in Koblenz ) was a German officer , most recently a lieutenant colonel . He was a bearer of the order Pour le Mérite .

Ludwig von Preuschen came from a noble family in Hesse , whose progenitor Georg Ernst Ludwig von Preuschen von und zu Liebenstein (1727–1794) is. This was enfeoffed with Liebenstein Castle and the village of Osterspai and on July 11, 1783 raised to the status of imperial baron. Ludwig's father was Baron August von Preuschen (1840–1913).

Ludwig von Preuschen married Gertrud Waltz on January 30, 1902 (born October 31, 1879 in Mannheim ; † January 6, 1972 Lahneck Castle ). Her sons were the ensign Gerhard-Helfrich (1902-1945), the District Administrator, Ministerialrat and Captain of the Cavalry Rudolf (May 4, 1906-2007) and the adjutant and lieutenant Götz (1911-1936).

Life

Ludwig von Preuschen was promoted to lieutenant on March 7, 1896, and in 1897 he received the Prussian Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Medal. During the First World War he served, among other things, as a battalion commander in the 2nd Baden Grenadier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm I." No. 110 and was awarded the Baden Military Karl Friedrich Order of Merit (on July 23, 1915) with the Knight's Cross with Swords of the House Order of Hohenzollern , the Iron Cross First Class , awarded the Cross of Honor of the World War 1914–1918 with swords and the Württemberg Wilhelmskreuz first class with swords. On June 17, 1918, he received the Order of " Pour le Mérite " No. 5203, on September 20, 1918 he was promoted to major. Shortly before the end of the war, he received the wound badge in black. In 1939 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel.
