Wilhelm Ludwig August Freiherr von Preuschen von und zu Liebenstein (born February 7, 1806 in Hadamar ; † October 29, 1864 in Idstein ) was a Nassau bailiff , archivist and heraldist .

Life

Ludwig von Preuschen von und zu Liebenstein came from a Nassau civil servant family. His father August was Vice President of the Higher Appeal Court in Wiesbaden , his grandfather Georg Ernst Ludwig was the President of the Orange-Nassau district. The origin of the noble family was the French part of Luxembourg. This noble family came to Germany at the end of the 15th century. In 1791, thanks to the merits of Georg Ernst Ludwig, it was elevated to the baron class for the Nassau Heritage Society . Liebeneck Castle and later Liebenstein Castle were the headquarters. Ludwig continued the second line of the tribe.

Ludwig attended the Philippinum Weilburg grammar school and then studied law at the universities of Heidelberg and Göttingen . After several positions in the administration, he came to the Nassau Central Archives in Idstein in 1843 . From 1851 to 1857 he was an examining magistrate at the Wiesbaden Criminal Court. He was then director of the central archive until his death.

He married Kathinka Johanna Maria Therese Edle von Coll on June 24, 1837 (* February 15, 1818 - † June 5, 1903). The couple had several children:

Works

From 1856, Preuschen worked on the book of arms of the New Sieve Maker , he edited the volume about the sovereigns. Ludwig was also engaged in exploring the Limes and was active in the general association of German history and antiquity associations.
