Ludwig von Seftigen

Ludwig von Seftigen († 1408 ) was mayor of the city of Bern from 1393 to 1407 . As a very wealthy landlord, he was the richest Bernese of his time.

Ludwig von Seftigen was a council member in the city of Bern from 1381 . The following year, his father Jakob II von Seftigen, who was married to one of Bennenwil , was elected mayor . His successor was Otto von Bubenberg in 1383, who ran the town for ten years. Ludwig von Seftigen was master of the Heimberg . In 1385 the lords of Kiesen , Muhlern and Burgistein were added, and he also owned shares in the lords of Oberhofen and Unspunnen , which brought him great wealth. In 1393 he was elected to the mayor's office as the successor to the Bubenberger. His most important act was the purchase of the Landgraviate of Burgundy from Count Egon II and his uncle Berchtold I von Neu-Kyburg , which he sealed as Bernese mayor on August 28, 1406. He remained in office until 1407 and died in 1408.

Ludwig von Seftigen was married to Loysa in his first marriage. In 1399 he married Margaretha von Baldegg, the widow of the knight Konrad III. from Burgistein . She was a daughter of Marquard von Baldegg.
