The property at Ludwigstrasse 14 in Ludwigstrasse in Bad Kissingen , the major district town of the Lower Franconian district of Bad Kissingen , is one of the Bad Kissingen architectural monuments and is registered in the Bavarian list of monuments under number D-6-72-114-45 .

history

The property was built in 1903/04 in Baroque Art Nouveau style based on plans by the Bad Kissingen architect Carl Krampf . The builder was the Bad Kissingen confectioner Matthäus Memmel, who was awarded the contract for the 1912 season at an auction of the stalls organized by the bath commissioner's office in the spa garden.

After the death of Matthäus Memmel in 1934, the pastry shop at Ludwigstrasse 14 went to his son Fritz Memmel, who had previously gained professional experience in Italy and Egypt, among other places. At that time, the pastry shop housed the first electrically operated rusk factory in Bad Kissingen. On April 8, 1939, Fritz Memmel opened a colonial room on the property with pieces that he had acquired during his time in Africa, and set up a garden pavilion with memories of old Kissingen.

Many of the memorabilia were lost when the property was confiscated by the American occupation forces from 1945 to 1947. During this time, confectioner Fritz Memmel and his son Josef Memmel found shelter in Café Hinsche on Brunnengasse and the corner of Spargasse.

Confectioner Fritz Memmel ran the pastry shop until his death in 1949. The pastry shop itself was subsequently run by various tenants and existed until the end of the 1950s.

In addition to the Kissing bakers Zoll and Messerschmitt , the writer Theodor Fontane also mentioned confectioner Memmel in a poem that he entered in the city's Golden Book in 1890 .
