The Ludza ( Latvian ) ( Russian Лжа ( Lscha )) is a river in eastern Latvia and western Russia .
The river has its source in the Great Ludza Lake near the city of the same name, Ludza . The upper course runs through swampy area to the north and forms the border between Russia and Latvia for 27 km. At the middle reaches the river gradient becomes stronger, some shallows and rapids formed through dolomite rocks . From this area the banks are mainly forested. The Pskov - Rēzekne railway line runs near the confluence with the Rītupe ( Utroja ) . The largest tributary is the Innitsa (91 km on the right before the mouth).
