The Velikaja ( Russian Великая , Estonian Velikaja jõgi or Pihkva Emajõgi , Võro Pihkva Imäjõgi, Latvian Mudava ) is a river in western Russia .

The length of the river is 430 km. It rises in the mountain range of Beschanizy (Бежаницкая возвышенность). The Velikaya flows into Lake Peipus . At the lower reaches, the river is navigable for approx. 40 km.

The catchment area of the Velikaya is 25,200 km². It is mainly located in Pskov Oblast . Larger cities on the Velikaya are Pskow , Opotschka and Ostrow .
