Lu Han ( Chinese  鹿 晗 , born April 20, 1990 in Beijing ), better known under the mononym Luhan , is a Chinese pop singer and actor . Until 2014 he was a member of the South Korean boy group EXO and its sub-group EXO-M. He ended his contract with SM Entertainment and left the group in October 2014.

life and career

1990–2010: Early years of life and beginning of career

Lu Han was born on April 20, 1990 in Haidian, Beijing . He graduated from Beijing Shida Middle School and attended Beijing Foreign Language Sei Yan School before leaving China to go to Yonsei University as an exchange student in South Korea. He studied Applied Music at the Seoul Institute of the Arts.

In 2008 he unsuccessfully participated in a worldwide casting for JYP Entertainment In China. During his studies he was discovered in Myeong-dong in 2010 by an SM agent who recommended him to take part in a casting of the agency; after this he became a trainee at the agency.

2011-2014: EXO

With Tao, Chen and Kai, Lu Han made his first televised appearance on SBS Gayo Daejeon on December 29, 2011. After that show, he was the second member of EXO to be officially introduced and that as one of the four Chinese members of the group and their Mandarin sub-group EXO-M.

The group released pre-release single What Is Love (January 30, 2012) and History (March 9) and held their first pre-debut show at Seoul's Olympic Stadium on March 31. The following day, the group held their second show and first press conference in the Great Hall of Beijing University of International Business and Economics in Beijing. The official debut single Mama was released on April 8th, followed by the EP Mama on April 9th. On April 8th, EXO-M performed in China at the 12th Yinyue Fengyun Bang Awards titled "Mama".

EXO achieved commercial success with their first studio album XOXO and its new version in 2013. The album became the first album in 12 years that sold more than a million copies in South Korea. The group's album Overdose, released in 2014, was a national and international success and entered the Billboard 200 charts in the United States.

On August 5, 2014, Lu Han became the Guinness World Record holder for the Most Commented Post on Weibo .

On October 10, Lu Han filed a lawsuit against SM Entertainment to have his contract void and left EXO.

2014-present: TV roles, film roles and solo debut

After Lu Han began his solo career in China, he won the Most Valuable Male Star Award at the 2014 Baidu Moments Conference, the Asia Popular Idol Award at the iQiyi Year-End Awards Ceremony, and was named Person of the Year at the Tudou Young Choice Awards called. He was also named as the 37th highest paid celebrity in China by Forbes.

Lu Han made his 2015 film debut in 20 Once Again , a Chinese remake of the hit Korean film Miss Granny . Luhan also sang the theme song for the film called Our Tomorrow .
