Luigi Barbaro
Luigi Barbaro (born August 26, 1957 in Pozzuoli , Italy) is an Austrian restaurateur .
Life
Barbaro was born as one of five children into a Neapolitan working class family. After five years of catering school with a high school diploma , he began to work in upscale catering.
In 1981 he came to Vienna. He worked at La Cavalline in the inner city . After two and a half years, he went into business for himself with a friend. They ran a restaurant in Josefstadt that offered cold Italian dishes. A year later, Barbaro opened the restaurant La Ninfea , shortly afterwards the restaurant La Ninfea 2 , in which he held 50%. Shortly afterwards he got the offer of a location in the inner city. Therefore, both restaurants were sold and the La Ninfea opened in October 1991 with a focus on Italian fish specialties on Schauflergasse. This restaurant business got two toques .
In September 1994 he opened the Martinelli restaurant at the Palais Harrach . Here they specialized in Italian meat dishes. In 1997 he set up the Regina Margarita pizzeria in the Esterházy Palace , which he opened on January 15, 1998.
As part of the Steffl project, he took over some businesses in a department store in downtown Vienna. This was followed by other projects over the years, such as the three- story Barbaro on Neuer Markt . In the bistro located there, Harald Riedl was awarded two toques by Gault Millau. There is an Italian bar on the first floor and a wine bar in the wine cellar. Barbaro ran the Regina Margherita restaurant in Graz with his son .
Since 2016, Barbaro has been running the regular bars of the Barbaro Group , the Martinelli in the Palais Harrach and the fine pizzeria Regina Margherita in the Palais Esterházy, as well as the Barbaro catering company and the Barbaro import / export company for Italian food and wines .
