Luigi Genuardi

Luigi Genuardi di Molinazzo (born February 3, 1882 in Palermo , † October 28, 1935 ibid) was an Italian lawyer, scholar and jurisprudence historian who primarily dealt with the Sicilian legal system.

Live and act

He was born in Palermo in 1882 and came from the noble family of the Barons of Molinazzo . In 1904 he completed his law studies as a student of Enrico Besta and Luigi Siciliano Villanueva. His main focus in his research was on reconstructing the legal sciences in his Sicilian homeland, considering and reconsidering the legal history over several epochs, starting with the Middle Ages. He pursued an intensive education focused on research and new archival documents.

In 1917 and 1918 he served in World War I and received the Italian War Merit Cross .

From 1915 he took up his academic career again and taught first Italian legal history and finally Roman law , both in Palermo and at the University of Camerino , in the Marches . After winning a competition for the Chair of Law at the University of Siena , he was later appointed to the University of Messina .
