Luigi Magni

Luigi Magni (born March 21, 1928 in Rome , † October 27, 2013 there ) was an Italian screenwriter and film director .

Life

Magni studied literature, but dropped out without a degree and devoted himself to the writing of stage plays, mainly in collaboration with Pietro Garinei and Sandro Giovannini on many successful musical comedies such as Il giorno della tartaruga , Ciao Rudy , viola, violino, viola d'amore and of course Rugantino worked. In 1956 he began his career as a screenwriter and in 1968 with Faustina as a director, who succeeded in his second film, In the Years of the Lord from the following year with a star cast, a superb portrait of Rome in 1825; His subsequent films also showed Magnis' interest in this period and were excellently equipped. In terms of content, they reflected the political struggles for freedom against church power, whereby he vehemently represented anti-clerical positions.

Magni, the "King of Rome Films", was awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic on May 2, 1996 ; In 2008 he received an honorary David for his life's work.
