He then went to AS Livorno in the Serie B . In two years with the traditional club, Luigi Martini and his team finished ninth in the second highest Italian division and once in fourteenth place.
In 1971, Luigi Martini joined Lazio Rome , which had just been relegated from Serie A to Serie B. After returning to the top class, the team established itself around players such as star striker Giorgio Chinaglia , midfielder Luciano Re Cecconi or Libero Giuseppe Wilson in the Serie A championship race. A year later, in Serie A 1973/74 , Lazio could improve again. With two points ahead of Juventus Turin , the Romans were in first place in Serie A after the end of all match days, which meant winning the Italian football championship for the first time in the club's history. Coach Maestrelli died of cancer in 1976, midfield motor Re Cecconi was shot a few weeks later, and Chinaglia had left the club for the United States the previous summer . Luigi Martini, however, stayed with Lazio until 1979. He completed a total of 203 league games for his employer, in which he scored eight goals. In the year after the departure of Martinis, Lazios first division time ended, you had to go back to Serie B after nine years.
