After 1950 Alberni was only sparsely in front of the camera, most recently in a small role in Cecil B. DeMille's monumental film The Ten Commandments in 1956 .

As in some of his film roles, Alberni was also a chef in real life. He was married twice and had two children from his first marriage. When he died of a heart attack in 1962 at the age of 76, he left behind his wife, Wanda. He was buried in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles .
