Luis Alberni
Luis Alberni (born October 4, 1886 in Barcelona , † December 23, 1962 in Hollywood , California ) was a Spanish - American actor.
life and career
After studying acting at the Complutense University of Madrid , Luis Alberni appeared primarily in classic Shakespeare plays. In 1914 he emigrated to the United States and played here in around 15 productions between 1915 and 1928. Among other things, he worked on the world premiere of What Price Glory? , the twice filmed play by Maxwell Anderson and Laurence Stallings . Already during the silent film era - he made his film debut in 1915 - Alberni appeared as a film actor, but it was not until the beginning of the sound film that he began working regularly in Hollywood .
Between 1915 and 1956, Alberni took part in minor and major supporting roles in a total of around 175 films. Although he was actually Spanish, he played Italian more often - often funny-looking, easily excitable cooks, waiters, politicians or hotel managers. The most important films of his career include Svengali , Roberta , My Life in Luxury and The Falschplayerin . He also worked on I Was a Criminal , Richard Oswald's American film adaptation of Der Hauptmann von Köpenick , as a prison guard. After 1950 Alberni was only sparsely in front of the camera, most recently in a small role in Cecil B. DeMille's monumental film The Ten Commandments in 1956 .
As in some of his film roles, Alberni was also a chef in real life. He was married twice and had two children from his first marriage. When he died of a heart attack in 1962 at the age of 76, he left behind his wife, Wanda. He was buried in the Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles .
