During a Senate debate on corruption , Lisandro de la Torre accused him of July 23, 1935 at 4 p.m. that meat buyers for the British refrigerated ships would pay more for his cattle than for cattle from other beef producers and that the finance minister, Frederico Pinedo , over tax evasion was informed by some beef buyers. He was shot at immediately after de la Torre made these allegations. The Senate colleague from Santa Fe, Enzo Bordabehere , threw himself in front of him, saved de la Torre's life and was shot himself in the process.
