Luis Enrique Fernández Figueroa (born April 29, 1950 in Zacatepec , Morelos ) is a retired Mexican football player on the position of defender . He was under contract as a player with Puebla FC for many years and later also worked for a long time in the coaching staff of the Camoteros .

career

Fernández began his professional career in the late 1960s during his time in the second division playing Puebla FC . In 1970 he succeeded with the Camoteros promotion to the top division after the club had successfully contested an additional promotion round to expand the first division.

After a decade at Puebla FC, he moved to Club Atlante in 1979 and returned to the Camoteros after the 1981/82 season, in which he had just made four appearances in the league round . The following season 1982/83 was not only to be his most memorable year, but also the most successful season of Puebla FC to date. Because after Fernández had only appeared five times in the preliminary round, he became an indispensable regular player in the second half of the season, who only missed the home game against the representative of his birthplace, Cañeros de Zacatepec , and otherwise played all games (including the Liguillas ). The highlight of the 1982/83 season was for the Camoteros the first time they reached the finals of the Mexican soccer championship, in which the "newcomer" Puebla FC faced the then record champions Chivas . After Puebla FC lost the first leg at Estadio Jalisco 2-1 and won the second leg at home Estadio Cuauhtémoc 1-0 after regular time, a penalty shoot-out was required to determine the champions . With a score of 6-6, Fernández scored the decisive goal to make it 7-6, giving Puebla FC the championship title for the first time in its history.

In the following season 1983/84 Fernández ended his active career and later switched to the coaching staff of Puebla FC, which he coached three times briefly as interim coach between 1988 and 1993.
