Luis Miguel Barberena Duarte (born November 26, 1953 in Mexico City , † February 8, 2007 in Puebla ), also known by the nickname El Chamaco ( The Boy ), was a Mexican football player in the position of defender .

career

Barberena first played for a team called Real Madrid in the Española de Fútbol League , arguably the most important amateur league in the Mexico City area.

At the age of 17 he received a professional contract with Club America , with whom he won the Mexican football championship and 1974 cup competition in his first season in 1970/71 and again in the 1975/76 season . A few months after winning his second championship title with America , "El Chamaco" had to take a longer break due to an operation and when he was fit again, he was no longer accepted into the first team. Therefore, he moved to city rivals Atlético Español .

For Club América, Barberena had completed a total of 143 games across tournaments and scored his only goal in a cup game on September 3, 1972 in the old Estadio Revolución Mexicana against CF Pachuca . His last game for the Americanistas played "Chamaco" on October 16, 1976 at the Estadio Tecnológico in a league game against CF Monterrey .

Barberena died on February 8, 2007 in Puebla due to cardiac arrest.
