Luis Morera
Luis Morera (born October 10, 1946 in Santa Cruz de La Palma ) is a sculptor, painter and musician working on La Palma .
Act
Luis Morera first made a name for himself as a singer, composer and lyricist. In 1974 he founded the folklore group Taburiente with the guitarists Miguel Peréz and Manolo Peréz , with which he became known beyond the borders of the Canary Islands.
As a student of César Manrique , Morera also devoted himself to the fine arts. From 1992 to 2007 he designed the nativity scene in Los Llanos de Aridane on a 300 m² area, which depicted the rural landscapes and their inhabitants of La Palma. From 1993 to 1996 he built the Plaza de La Glorieta in the Las Manchas district . With the design of the plaza, Morera developed his own style of art by adapting the figures and portraits depicted in mosaics made of broken ceramic tiles to the landscape of La Palma. He derived his art-nature philosophy from the ability of animals to adapt to nature.
For the Plaza Alameda in Santa Cruz de La Palma, Morera created a bronze statue in the form of a dwarf (called: Enano ) for the Bajada in 2000 .
As a painter he created the large mural "Cascada de Los Tiles" in the courtyard of the Hotel Taburiente Playa in Los Cancajos , La Palma and the picture cycle Dia de los Indianos with depictions of the carnival in Santa Cruz. In 2004, in La Fajana, Barlovento , he and Natan Teutsch created a picture on a house wall that showed a group of dolphins, as vividly as if they were swimming in the water there (see below). As early as 2006 the picture showed damage and no longer exists.
With Natan Teutsch, Morera founded the Avivarte company and converted the upper part of the former Parque Botánico (now: Parque Antonio Gómez Felipe ) into Los Llanos de Aridane, which is now called El Jardín de las Delicias . The design elements of the park are lava stone and again mosaics made of broken ceramic tiles, from which the artists created a miniature mountain landscape and images of animals and plants.
In Puerto Tazacorte they redesigned the Playa Mont restaurant and the former Plaza del Morro (opposite the town hall, now Plaza Enrique Noguerales ) and the town hall facade in Tazacorte . The latter, however, no longer exists in the form designed by the artist. In 2007 they created a fountain with a bronze figure named "San Miguel de La Palma" in front of the town hall .
The Las Piedras de Taburiente building, which was reopened in 2014, opposite the El Paso visitor center, was designed by Luis Morera with murals. It is intended to serve as a cultural center that brings visitors closer to the customs, arts and crafts of the Canary Island of La Palma.
