Luis Sand

Luis Sand (born June 20, 1909 in Bolzano ; † April 6, 1981 there ) was a South Tyrolean lawyer and politician.

Sand, the son of a watchmaker , attended the Franciscan high school in Bozen and passed his Matura in Klagenfurt in 1927 . He then completed a law degree, which he graduated from the University of Modena in 1931 . In 1935 and 1936 he fought in the Abyssinian War . Back in South Tyrol he worked as a lawyer in Bozen and Sarnthein . After the Second World War he got involved in the South Tyrolean People's Party (SVP), for which he was elected to the Italian Senate for five years in 1958 and 1963 . As a criminal defense attorney, he was involved in several sensational trials in the 1950s and 1960s, including those against the “ Pfunderer Buam ” and in the BAS environment . At the political level he also took part in the negotiations on the autonomy of South Tyrol , around 1960 as a member of the Austrian delegation together with Alfons Benedikter and Friedl Volgger when the South Tyrol issue was dealt with at the United Nations .
