Luis Villafuerte

Luis "Louie" Robredo Villafuerte (born August 29, 1935 in Naga , Camarines Sur ) is a former Filipino politician and economic manager who was a minister during the tenure of President Ferdinand Marcos , a member of the House of Representatives and governor of Camarines Sur province .

Life

Manager, lawyer and minister of the Marcos era

Villafuerte is a son of Mariano Villafuerte , who was a member of the Philippine legislature for the first district of Camarines Sur between 1928 and 1934 and also governor of Camarines Sur between 1942 and 1943. He himself attended the Naga Parochial School and then from 1949 to 1953 the Atene de Naga . He then began an undergraduate degree at the University of the Philippines , which he completed in 1955 with an Associate in Arts. He then completed a law degree at the University of the Philippines in 1959 with a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.). After working as a lawyer , he worked for BANCOM Development Corp. between 1965 and 1974 . worked there and was Executive Vice President and most recently President of the company. He became one of the Most Outstanding Man in 1972 and between 1975 and 1978 moved to the law firm Villafuerte, Zamora & Associates Law Offices as a senior partner .

On June 12, 1978 he was elected as a candidate of the Marcos-loyal list of the movement of the New Society KBL (Kilusang Bagong Lipunan) as a member of the Interim Congress (Interim Batasang Pambansa) and represented the Bicol region in this until June 5, 1984 , the so-called Region V.

In addition, Villafuerte took over during the tenure of President Ferdinand Marcos on July 24, 1979 as successor to Troadio Quiazon the office of Minister of Trade (Minister of Trade) . He was a member of the Regular Batasang Pambansa from June 30, 1984 to March 25, 1986 and also represented the Camarines Sur Province in Region V.

Member of the House of Representatives and Governor of Camarines Sur

After President Marcos was overthrown in the course of the EDSA revolution from February 23 to 25, 1986, Villafuerte became governor of the province of Camarines Sur for the first time as a candidate for the struggle of the democratic Filipinos LDP (Laban ng Demokratieong Pilipino) , replacing Felix Fuentebella . He held this post until June 30, 1992 after he was previously beaten by Jose Bulaong of the Lakas ng Tao-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD). At the same time, during the tenure of President Corazon Aquino between 1986 and 1987, he was Chairman of the President of the Presidential Commission for the Reorganization of the Government PCGR (Presidential Commission on Government Reorganization) . After losing his governorship, he was a member of the executive committee of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative ( ICLEI ) between 1992 and 1995, based in Toronto, and from 1993 to 1995 chairman of the energy company Bicol Hydro-Power Corp. and Chairman of the Bicol Region Regional Development Council.

On June 30, 1995, Villafuerte was succeeded Jose Bulaong again as governor of Camarines Sur province and held this office up to a maximum of nine years on June 30, 2004, whereupon his son Luis Raymund Villafuerte took his place. He himself was elected to the House of Representatives in the elections on May 10, 2004 as a candidate for the Lakas ng Tao-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) and initially represented the constituency of Camarines Sur-2nd District . In 2007 he joined the partner of the Free Filipinos KAMPI (Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino) and was re-elected to the House of Representatives in the May 14, 2007 elections in the Camarines Sur-2nd District constituency. He returned as a member of the Lakas-CMD between 2008 and 2009, before becoming a member of the Nationalist People's Union NPC ( Nationalist People's Coalition ) in 2009 , the Koalisyong Makabayan ng Bayan . In the elections of May 10, 2010, he was re-elected for the NPC as a member of the House of Representatives, where he now represented the constituency of Camarines Sur-3rd District until June 30, 2013 . During his parliamentary membership, he was vice-chairman of the Committee on Appropriations , the Committee on Basic Education and Culture and the Committee on Local Government .

Family relationships

Villafuerte is married to Nelly Favis Villafuerte who was, among other things, Undersecretary in the Ministry of Trade and Industry. His son Luis Raymund Villafuerte emerged from this marriage , who was his successor as Governor of Camarines Sur between 2004 and 2013 and has also been a member of the House of Representatives for the Nacionalista Party since June 30, 2016 , where he is the constituency of Camarines Sur-2nd District represents. The son of Luis Raymund Villafuerte and grandson of Louie Villafuerte, Miguel "Migz" Luis Villafuerte , succeeded his father as governor of Camarines Sur on June 30, 2013. Louie Villafuerte's nephew, Jesse Robredo, was Naga City Mayor from 1988 to 1998 and again from 2001 to 2010, and Secretary of Interior and Local Government between July 9, 2010 and his death in a plane crash on August 18, 2012 ) in the government of President Benigno Aquino III.
