Luis de Beaumont, 2nd Conde de Lerín

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Luis de Beaumont, 2nd Conde de Lerín (* around 1430, † 1508 in Aranda de Jarque , Saragossa) was a Navarre nobleman. He was the son of Luis de Beaumont, 1st Conde de Lerín and Juana de Navarra, and therefore a member of the Navarre royal house of France-Évreux on both sides . In 1462, when his father died, he inherited his father's title and property. Already since 1451 he led the party of the Beaumonteses together with his brother Juan .

In 1464, after the Treaty of Tarragona , Luis ended his family's fight against King John II of Aragon and submitted to him. In 1468 he married Leonor de Aragón, an illegitimate daughter of John, and then gradually gained the favor of John's son and successor Ferdinand II .

The position of the Beaumonteses on the marriage of Catherine of Navarra and Jean d'Albret (1484) brought him into opposition to Katharina's mother, the regent Madeleine de France, until the peace of Pamplona and Orthez (1493) made it possible for the couple to be crowned in return for considerable concessions . Luis de Beaumont, however, did not hesitate to take up arms again, but was conquered in 1495 and fled to Castile. Restored in his rights in 1500, he rose again in 1507, was expelled from the country again and executed the following year.
