Luis de la Puente SJ (born November 11, 1554 in Valladolid ; † February 16, 1624 ibid) was a Spanish Jesuit and author of ascetic writings.

Life

After joining the Society of Jesus , he studied under the famous theologian Francisco Suárez . Soon after his ordination in 1580 he was appointed as a novice master and was popular as such, but had to give up this activity for health reasons. From then on he devoted himself to work as a writer.

From 1599 he devoted himself to the plague sufferers in Villagarcia . Adored by many for his humble way of life, he died in a reputation for holiness. Soon after his death, his beatification process began and the Holy See made him a venerable servant of God .

Works

Of his numerous writings, Meditaciones de los Mysterios de Nuestra Sancta Fe (published in 1605, German: Reflections on the Most Excellent Secrets of Faith ) is the most famous. It was translated into more than ten languages ​​and reissued into the 20th century. A new edition followed in 2016.
