Life

Luise Vogel studied German, philosophy of religion and history at the University of Heidelberg . She also received her doctorate there in 1919, at the age of 22, on direct speech in short stories. After taking the state examination in Karlsruhe in 1920 , she worked at the advanced school in Gotha from 1926 to 1934 . In 1934 she returned to Baden and worked at grammar schools, first in Mannheim , then in Überlingen . In 1944 she was given early retirement due to illness. After getting to know Schwäbisch Gmünd in search of Swabian children's songs for a planned job, she decided to move there in 1945.

Her literary activity increased in Schwäbisch Gmünd. From the very beginning - in 1953 - she was part of the staff of the Gmünder Heimat- und Kultur bi-monthly magazine "einhorn", which appeared until 1973 and was then replaced by the "einhorn-Jahrbuch". She regularly wrote “witty” essays for the magazine. Her poems appeared in it again and again. Luise Vogel became a member of the Gmünder Literaturkreis 77 . In 1965 her selection of poems, Alles ist Gnade, was published with 40 poems, which was doubled in the second edition in 1981. Some of her poems were set to music by the composer Otto Stoll, with whom she worked artistically for years. Luise Vogel also wrote a mystery play, Elisabeth von Thuringia , which Otto Stoll expanded into a five-act opera.

Luise Vogel spent her last years in the St. Ludwig nursing home.

Luise Vogel represented a religiously based poetry. Her poems are characterized by subtle sensitivity.
