The village, founded in 1936 under the name Großsiedlung Hundertmorgen , was initially taken care of by the Protestant parish offices in Weisenheim am Sand , Maxdorf and Erpolzheim . From 1947 onwards, the school barrack and later the workers' welfare house were used as worship rooms.

A separate parish was set up by the Evangelical Church of the Palatinate on December 1, 1950 under the name Vikariat Weisenheim am Sand ; it included the parishes of Birkenheide and Maxdorf II (BASF settlement), which are still affiliated with the parish today.

The foundation stone for the St. Luke Church, initially known as the Diaspora Chapel, was laid on October 14, 1951, and the church was consecrated on December 9, 1951 after eight weeks of construction. The building was renovated in 1978.

The church is a rectangular wooden structure with an integrated parish hall under a gable roof . Both gable sides are designed as window fronts. The altar is in a lockable wall cabinet so that the church can also be used for profane purposes. There is space for 200 worshipers on a usable area of ​​196 m². In the middle of the roof there is a ridge for the only bell in the church; it was cast in 1913 by the Hamm foundry in Frankenthal, weighs 90.5 kg and is tuned to F.

The organ , built in 1953 by the Gebrüder Oberlinger from Windesheim , has four stops with mechanical action and pedal coupler .
