Lukas Church in Freiburg

The Lukaskirche is a Protestant church in the St. Georgen district of the city of Freiburg im Breisgau . It belongs to the parish Freiburg-Südwest of the Evangelical Church of Baden . It is named after the evangelist Luke . It is one of the reliably open churches .

history

After the Second World War , the proportion of the Protestant resident population also increased sharply in the largely Catholic district of St. Georgen and therefore the Melanchthon Church in Freiburg-Haslach, which was responsible until then, was no longer able to cope with it. The church was built in 1954 and consecrated in January 1955.

Next to the church building is the community center of the Lukas congregation and an Oberlin kindergarten .

description

inside view

The church is extremely simple and looks more like an old village church than a modern church. A rectangular hall building in west-east direction with a gable roof is attached on the east side to a massive rectangular, relatively low tower, also with a gable roof, in the transverse direction. A photovoltaic system with an area of around 50 m² and a nominal output of 4.83 kW is installed on the south side of the gable roof .

The interior with a flat wooden ceiling is illuminated by round arched clear windows. The entrance portal and the sound openings in the tower are also arched. The chancel has been drawn in and is separated from the church by a rounded choir arch.

Furnishing

Gallery with organ

The equipment is economical. Behind the simple altar on the back wall hangs a picture by the artist Chris Popovic with the title “Cubicularium-ein-born”, in the church space in front of the choir arch, there is a simple baptismal font on the left and an equally simple sermon desk on the right.

On the gallery in the entrance area there is an organ by the organ builder Georges Heintz from Schiltach (Opus 200). Since 2006 it has replaced a previous instrument that had to be abandoned after a good forty years due to its poor condition and water damage. The instrument has 20 stops on two manuals and a pedal .

In the compact tower there are three bells that were cast in December 1954 by the Bachert bell foundry in Karlsruhe . The following table gives an overview of the dates, inscriptions and symbols.
