History and architecture

The area of ​​today's parish Wittel originally belonged to the Simeon Church in Gohfeld. From 1899 church services were held regularly on the Wittel , first in a farmhouse, later in a school and from 1913 in the newly built parish hall. On January 1, 1964, a separate parish was parish .

In 1970, planning began to build a church that would also serve as a cemetery chapel . The foundation stone was laid on May 11, 1972. To a design by Rudolf Hartog a maroon was verklinkerter , octagonal central built with a high center of the window band. The single-storey sacristy connects to the bell tower . The inauguration took place on May 6, 1973.

The church was named after the evangelist Luke . This completed the series of evangelists in the Gohfeld district with the Matthäuskirche in Mahnen , the Johanneskirche in Melbergen and the Catholic Markuskapelle .

Furnishing

The altar , pulpit and baptismal font of the Lukaskirche were made from Obernkirchen sandstone by Theodor Henke . The cross behind the altar comes from Resl Schröder-Lechner .

The organ was manufactured by Gustav Steinmann Orgelbau in 1956 and was used in the parish hall before the Lukaskirche was built. The three bells in the tower date from 1972.
