Gustav Steinmann Orgelbau is an organ building workshop based in Wehrendorf in the city of Vlotho .
history
The company, which is now run by the fourth generation, was founded in 1910 by Gustav Steinmann (1885–1953) from Steinbründorf , who had learned the trade of organ builders from P. Furtwängler & Hammer in Hanover , among others . The first church organ was made in 1911 for the Evangelical Christ Church in Greven . Between 1919 and 1939 over 100 organs and around 1500 harmonies were produced, and 15 organs were delivered to the Netherlands between 1923 and 1933 .
In the 1920s Steinmann became part of the organ movement , which advocated a return to baroque organ building. The Steinmann organ of the Pauluskirche in Bielefeld, built in 1928, was the largest organ of this era in Germany.
In the 1950s, the type of small to medium - sized neo - baroque slider chest organs developed, which Steinmann produced in large numbers. A large part of the organs built since then have been delivered to churches in East Westphalia-Lippe . In the church district of Vlotho , the organs built since 1945 based on the findings of the organ movement all come from Steinmann, with a few exceptions. In addition to the new building, the reconstruction of old organs in historical construction is also part of the company's field of activity.
