history

Half-timbered church in Riebrau

In the Lüneburg feudal register, the place was first mentioned in 1360 under the name Schernyn . The church in Riebrau was first mentioned in writing in 1534 . The inhabitants of the village had been forcibly relocated from the princely hunting area of Göhrde . First the chapel from the lost village of Lutze was rebuilt. In 1655 the church, which burned down during the Thirty Years War, was rebuilt with a new rectory . Today's rectory was built in 1734 and is the oldest four-column house in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district. In 1763 the third church was built in Riebrau.

A chapel is mentioned for Gülden in 1534. Since then, the church and the parish office in Riebrau have been staffed continuously.

Until the 1920s, Zernien consisted of just three farms (located on today's federal road). The central villages of the western part of the former Dannenberg district were the places Gülden (two kilometers south) and, to a limited extent, Riebrau (two kilometers north). This can be seen, among other things, from the fact that there are still many facilities in the two districts of Zernia mentioned today (churches in Gülden and Riebrau; rifle club and volunteer fire brigade in Gülden).

With the opening of the Uelzen – Dannenberg railway in 1924, that changed, as a train station was built around 500 meters north of the three courtyards to serve the surrounding villages. In the period that followed, several wood processing companies settled there. For this reason, in contrast to all other places in the district (with the exception of Neu Tramm ), the village has almost exclusively architecture from the years after 1924. Today, people live in the village of Zernien, whose softness extends to the area of the Braasche district extends, almost 50% of the community population.

The baroque pulpit altar has been separated since 1961. In the altarpiece, John and Mary can be seen under the cross. The gravestones of the site manager Heinrich Isenbart and his wife are on the outer wall of the choir. The church was thoroughly renovated inside and outside by 2001, largely restored to its original condition.
