Location of Glieneitz in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district

Glieneitz is one of 18 districts of the municipality of Zernien in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district in Lower Saxony .

Location description

The scattered settlement consists of 15 (mostly former) farmsteads, which are spread over an area of approximately one square kilometer on the southern edge of the Göhrde forest in Drawehn .

history

Large stone graves in the area indicate that the area was inhabited as early as prehistoric times.

The first written mention of the place can be found in the Lüneburg Lehnsregister for the year 1360 under the name Gelnisse . The name is Slavic and means something like "clay place". In 1604 the place is considered desolate. For the year 1684 two full courtyards are mentioned again, but under one owner.

From at least the middle of the 17th century until 1932, Glieneitz consisted mainly of a farm (formerly called "Hufe", later called "Gut"). Documents also contain references to a second one, which however "fell in ruins" (was given up). While a clan with the name Schenk managed this farm for more than 200 years, the subsequent owners changed very quickly: in the land register, which was created in 1884, eight changes in just 40 years are listed. The last owner of the estate with around 220 hectares of land was the Hanover settlement company. She ran a settlement, d. H. the land was divided into 15 settler sites, four houses were built in the existing buildings, and eleven more were built by the settlers. This happened at a time of enormous unemployment (early 1930s). Therefore, not only people with knowledge of agriculture from the surrounding area, but also completely foreigners from other parts of the country (e.g. Westphalia and Saxony ) tried to build a new life in Glieneitz.

The place belonged to the municipality of Reddien in the district of Uelzen . On July 1, 1972, Reddien was assigned to the Lüchow-Dannenberg district as part of the regional reform and incorporated into the municipality of Zernien.

Glieneitz today

75 years of Glieneitz

The general structural changes in agriculture in particular have led to the fact that from 2009 only one (larger) farm will be located in Glieneitz. Most of the other farms changed their owners and are used for "living in the country" - u. a. from several horse owners. The number of their animals has meanwhile exceeded the population of 45 (as of June 2008).
