Stone Age finds
Several thousand flint artifacts were found in the gravel pits of Lübbow between 1979 and 1985 , the manufacture of which is attributed to Neanderthals about 200,000 years ago. The tools made of Baltic flint (flint) were deposited in the pre- pouring gravel of the Saale glaciation and must have been made before the glacial (caused by the glacier) embankment of the gravel and sands. The collection handed down to the public today comes mainly from the volunteer homeland researcher Hermann Leunig, supported by Wilcken Dürre. The collection was donated to the Landesmuseum Hannover in 1987 . The 600 scientifically analyzed tools are an inventory of the Acheuléen , about 20% of which were manufactured using the Levallois technique and 80% using the simple or Clacton technique. Among the devices there are hand axes and leaf scraper . The "Leunig Collection" is today one of the largest Acheuléen complexes in the north German old moraine area .
